Dear Freeman Families,
Please allow me to introduce myself. I am Julie Groce, your new principal for the 2023/2024 school year and I am thrilled to be part of your child’s educational journey. I began my teaching career in Arizona where I taught middle school math and elementary school. While in Arizona, I was a member of the Arizona State Standards Review Committee, test scorer for the state standardized test AZMERIT, and cohort member for Recruitment and Retainment Center of Mathematics Teachers. After completing my Masters in Elementary Education, I began instructional coaching for Tucson Unified School District.
While in Arizona, my husband and I had our first and only son. We moved back to Michigan to be closer to family in 2020, and upon returning I began working as a Math Coach for the Genesee Intermediate School District. In 2021, I was elected as Secretary for Michigan’s Council of Teachers of Mathematics and became Math Recovery Level 1 and 2 certified. During this time, I enrolled in school and completed my Education Specialist graduate degree and became a certified administrator.
Throughout my time at GISD as an instructional coach, I was able to work at Potter Elementary School and ALA in Flint. I am grateful for the opportunity to work with you and your family to give your scholar the best education possible.
